Import guides / Moomoo
This is the one thing to know before you start: Moomoo's CSV export exists only in the desktop application. However long you spend looking for it on your phone, it is not there. Install the desktop app once, export, and you never have to think about it again.
Export your transaction history
Start here rather than with the positions file. A list of holdings tells FolioBright what you own today; the transaction history tells it what you paid and when, which is what real cost basis, time-weighted return and money-weighted return are built from.
- Download and install the Moomoo desktop app — the mobile app cannot export CSV.
- Launch it and sign in.
- Open the Custom section.
- Choose Add Widget, then Trade History.
- On the History tab, set your date range.
- Click the download icon to save the CSV.
Export your current positions
Optional, and useful mainly as a check: import the transactions first, then compare the share counts FolioBright shows against this file to confirm nothing was missed.
- The desktop app's positions view can be exported the same way.
- Monthly statements in the mobile app are handy for confirming a share count at a month end.
What FolioBright reads
The importer matches your header row automatically, so normally you do not have to think about this. These are the columns it looks for in a Moomoo export.
| Column in your export | What FolioBright does with it |
|---|---|
Time | Moomoo stamps the time as well as the date |
Side | buy or sell, rather than a longer action description |
Symbol | ticker |
Quantity | shares |
Price | execution price |
Amount | net cash |
Things it handles for you
Side rather than Action. Moomoo keeps it terse — a Side column holding buy or sell where other brokers write a sentence. That is matched automatically.
Multiple markets in one account. Moomoo customers often hold US, Hong Kong and Singapore listings side by side. FolioBright re-denominates the whole portfolio into your chosen base currency using one monthly series, so the currency effect on your return is a real number rather than a rounding artefact.
Timestamps are read down to the date, which is what returns are calculated on.
Bringing it into FolioBright
- Open FolioBright and choose the account the file belongs to, or create one with Add account.
- Click Import transactions and drop the CSV in.
- Check the column mapping. FolioBright reads the header row and fills it in for you; the preset for this broker is below if you ever need to set it by hand.
- Review the preview. Anything it could not read is listed separately rather than imported quietly.
- Import. Prices, returns and allocation update as soon as it lands.
Other brokerages
Nothing to install
FolioBright reads the file in your browser and stores the result in your own account. There is no brokerage login to hand over, no read-only credential, and no third-party aggregator sitting between you and your holdings.
